Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

As the prevailing story of the 2020 pandemic continues, approximating its way to summer days, residents in the town of Rahway continue taking preventive measures to minimize the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19. Although hard to predict when things will resume without the limitations of COVID-19, the state of New Jersey has reopened several beaches and boardwalks on Memorial Day weekend with limited capacity and restrictions (1). Exciting news since summer brings hope, warm weather, yummy frozen treats and a day to celebrate all fathers!

Even though regulations will be in place, this time of the year will bring forth a slight sense of normality where students are off from school or have graduated and are moving forward their educational ladder and staying home. With schools being closed for the rest of the academic year and debate as to whether schools will remain closed in the fall of 2020, parents at the Grand Meridia seek out ways in which to keep their children occupied and continue their education from home (2). Residents of Grand Meridia and the city of Rahway may explore activities and educational resources for children at:

This website, which is also used by teachers, provides links for virtual field trips, printable coloring books, and 3 months of free guitar lessons among many other activities.

Many parents and non-parents alike at Grand Meridia and surrounding areas are enjoying the reopening of parks and golf courses since May 2nd (3). Residents may enjoy taking their families to local parks such as the Rahway River Park which is a 25-minute walk or a 10-15-minute bike ride from Grand Meridia. Residents may also take a short ride to nearby neighboring parks such as Nomahegan Park in Cranford, NJ where there are many trails and bike riding paths to choose from. In addition to these outdoor activities, the City of Rahway is providing its residents with the “Livewell” event calendar where residents may join in on different exercise activities. For the month of June, residents may register to free dance classes every Thursday in the Rahway Train Station Plaza (4). Starting in June every Thursday as well is the Rahway Farmer’s Market with extended hours from noon to 8PM where residents can find anything from local produce to beauty products at great prices (5).

Grand Meridia residents are urged to enjoy local restaurants and explore the variety of different menus to choose from. Rahway restaurants are offering take-out and delivery services until restaurant businesses are allowed to reopen for inside dining. Please refer to the list below to view the list of restaurants that are open for business and providing great food to its residents!

Families in the area may discover June to bring forth new and different experiences where preventive measures are a must yet, getting out and enjoying each day is as necessary to one’s wellbeing. Although these times have presented many families throughout the country with difficult challenges, there are many ways in which families can keep their hopes up and enjoy the extended quality time that was previously hard to find due to work demands and responsibilities.

Wishing a happy Father’s Day to all the incredible fathers!

A special thank you is given to the healthcare and frontline workers that are putting their lives at risk to help others survive these unusual times, and an extra special thank you to residents at the Grand Meridia that are healthcare workers and frontline workers bringing joy and faith to the hearts of others!
