Rahway Splendor in September

As summer makes its slow exit in the North Eastern region, NJ continues its trod in phase two of the COVID-19 reopening approach (1). On Sept. 1st, Governor Murphy has announced that gyms may reopen with strict guidelines in place and 25% indoor capacity (2). Some of the regulations include wearing a mask at all times inside of the gym, signing a form accepting to adhere to safety provisions, and having gym personnel keep logs of workers and clients for COVID-19 tracing purposes (2).

For Rahway residents looking to continue their fitness outdoors, Rahway is offering free spin classes on Fridays, for more information please visit: cityofrahway.com/livewell (More details about the spin classes will be available soon on Rahway’s Livewell website.) Rahway residents may also take advantage of OneNest Yoga’s free community yoga classes on the weekends at the Gallery Space located at 1670 Irving St. Registration is required and attendees must wear a mask to enter or exit but not during yoga practice (3). To register please visit OneNest Yoga’s class schedule and sign up at: https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/mainclass

On Sept. 12th, Rahway will be hosting the Spanktown Splash Canoe & Kayak Race! This event will take place at the Rahway Yacht Club (est. 1904!). A fun way to exercise, gather with family and friends, and enjoy great food and beverages. Tickets cost $35-$60 (depending on canoe rental) and food is included in the price (4)! To registration information, please check out the flyer below.

Things to do with the Family:

If you’re looking for family entertainment, look no further! Rahway is continuing its Movies Under the Stars through mid-September on Thursdays and Fridays. It is a free event and attendees may bring in their own chairs (5). For more information, please visit, http://www.ucpac.org/movies-under-the-stars?fbclid=IwAR0W7QWyaw0g_nMSgCnFHy1RL4rsrvBkJQUyplmIfVHVQvnybqE75QiO4Qg We encourage residents to join this event before it is no longer weather-permitting!

More events of interest outside of the local area are Jersey City’s Urban Paddle skyline adventures and Night Light Sky Lantern Festival in the Poconos.

Urban Paddle offers kayaking or SUP rentals in the Hudson River. First time tours cost $50.00 and $25.00 after your first-time tour (6). Urban Paddle also offers SUP Yoga; this is practicing yoga on a paddleboard surrounded by the beauty of Jersey City’s and New York City’s skyline.

The Night Light Sky Lantern Festival is another great family event to experience. Families are welcomed to light up a lantern and let it fly among hundreds at the Poconos on Sept. 12-13. Sky lanterns are biodegradable and do not present any harm to the environment (7). For more information, take a look at Night Lights Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/547326215813735/

Towards the end of the month, September’s cool air and falling leaves bring to heart the joy of family gatherings, cozy evenings, and farm picking. Enjoy time with loved ones at the Alstede Farms where they have a great harvest schedule with many things to choose from. Currently, guests can pick cucumbers, apples, blackberries, tomatoes, green beans, flowers (zinnias and cosmos), eggplant, raspberries, potatoes, squash, and sunflowers (8)! Picking tools are available at the farm or you may bring your own. Alstede farms also have a homemade ice cream stand and food stand. Visit alstedefarms.com to plan your visit today.

For those looking for charm nearby take a visit to Crandford’s small downtown area. Cranford has splendid restaurants, parks, and many cafes to choose from. Some local favorites are Café Paris, Romola’s Seafood and Grille, River and Rail Cantina, Cafeteasia, Track 5 Coffee, and much more! After lunch or dinner enjoy a nice walk at Hampton Park several blocks away from the central Cranford energy.

Recognized as one of NJ’s best outdoor dining restaurants (9), The Irving Inn in downtown Rahway is a well-known dining spot to go to, so if you haven’t been, we recommend you try it soon! The Irving Inn’s seating is first come, first serve out on the patio and they offer great food, great cocktails, and great music!

A Word to Our Residents at Grand Meridia

With election day closely approaching, we urge residents to register to vote! To register, please visit: https://www.state.nj.us/state/elections/voter-registration.shtml or to find out if you are already registered to vote, please check out: https://www.usa.gov/confirm-voter-registration

Additionally, Census agents are still trying to collect more until the end of September. Agents are in the field collecting quick household information from residents to determine governmental funding allocations. If you haven’t already done so, please submit your census questionnaire at https://my2020census.gov/ The questionnaire only takes a few minutes to complete and your responses make all the difference!

Although NJ continues to slowly curtail COVID-19 restrictions, Rahway officials and Grand Meridia’s team alike would like to continue requiring residents to wear masks or face coverings in addition to keeping at least a 6-foot distance away from non-family members. It is especially important to do this when in the hallways since hallways are not 6” wide. With this in mind, Grand Meridia will continue to keep its amenities closed until further notice. The goal is to maintain families safe and prevent an outbreak within the communities at all costs.

Help keep Rahway’s COVID-19 numbers down for the health of the community! Stay informed on local COVID-19 cases through the Rahway coronavirus portal at: https://rahway-coronavirus-response-rahway.hub.arcgis.com/

Meridia residents looking to make any monetary donations can visit the following page to connect to Rahway’s F.L.A.G. group to help frontline workers continue succeeding at their incredible work: https://www.gofundme.com/f/flag-frontline-appreciation-group-of-rahway?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1&fbclid=IwAR3FapbLjdTuVObc8o1MMfNI-VfFqrDlAzB3KXeIy2BAH-VzsS3QAEkZII4

Happy September!
